…is a town of approximately 90,000 people and sits on the Thames. This was a factor in the establishment of the Town as one of the first English resort towns in the 19th Century.
Gordon Promenade was packed with Tourists taking in the waters and sights of the Thames. There were more attractions such as the Rosherville, Springhead and The Terrace Pier Gardens, and at one point there was a camera obscura atop Windmill Hill .
These all exist in name and memory only, however there are a number of older images available online .

…has been created in order to document the ever changing face of Gravesend. I am relatively new to Gravesend but have found it to be a wonderful town with an abundance of unique attractions.
Windmill Hill , where you can see over to Essex ,see Canary Wharf and also out towards Southend and Canvey Island. Gordon Promenade with it’s Park and Cafe and great views of shipping using the Thames. And of course ...Pocahontas.
